About Paul

I was born in London, England and I fell in love with music in my late teens. I learnt to play bass guitar, joined a band and started to learn about the equipment we needed to make recordings of our songs.

At first I taught myself but then went on to formally study music technology. This led to a degree-level qualification from Thames Valley University in 2005. When I finished my studies I tried a few different junior roles in the music industry but found my true calling lay in teaching and helping others with their music equipment.

I used to work as a music technology teacher in schools and now I currently I run Audio Support full-time.

My career in brief: (including software used)

  • 2002 – 2005 Degree in Music Technology from Thames Valley University (Logic Pro)
  • 2004 – 2006 Sound engineer at World’s End Sound recording studio in Kent (Pro Tools)
  • 2005 – 2022 Part-time Special Educational Needs teacher running music projects at the Bethlem Hospital School in South London
  • 2007 – 2011 Part time teacher of Music Technology at Hextable School, Kent (Cubase)
  • 2005 – Present Running Audio Support (Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton, other software, outboard, modular)

My work as a Teacher

I have been told that my personality makes me a natural teacher and teaching is something that I have always enjoyed. I have worked with learners from primary school age to post-retirement adults and can adapt how I deliver lesson content to best suit my learners.

It’s hard to write about yourself, so here are a few reviews from past clients to give a flavour of my teaching style:

What a great service! Paul was really helpful and clear, and was willing to take time to make sure things were properly understood. I’ve spent ages trying to get home recording sorted out, and now in the space of a half day I’m up and running. Highly recommended 🙂

Paul was brilliant….He listened to my weaknesses with Logic and explained it in a manner I could understand. I would recommend Audio Support to anyone wishing to improve, understand and progress with their music software programs. I will be booking another session in the near future.

Darren Wright, Musician and Logic Pro user, London

Paul was a pleasure to work with in our highly specialised setting. He observed all our protocols and requirements and provided regular feedback on the pupil’s progress. He fostered a genuine professional rapport with the pupil eliciting real mastery of the required qualification content. The pupil engaged meaningfully in this work in a way that they had not been able to previously. The whole process was smooth and the outcome fantastic. I would not hesitate to recommend Paul for tuition of this qualification. (Rockshool Music Technology Level 4)

My work as a Troubleshooter

As a teenager in the late 1990s I wanted to make a recording of my first band so I borrowed a friend’s multi-track tape recorder. Figuring out how to use it and how to make a ‘professional sounding’ recording became a teenage obsession that developed into a career. I’m someone who naturally enjoys solving puzzles and setting up music equipment is a bit like solving a real-world puzzle.

During my university years, I built a reputation as a friendly guy who was good at solving problems and getting equipment working. When I left university I decided to market this as a skill and Audio Support grew from there.

Since then, I have encountered and solved thousands of studio problems and developed a vast knowledge base of potential issues and solutions. Every year new products are released with new problems, bugs and incompatibilities. I continue to build on my past knowledge and offer help to any client that wants to employ my services.

Paul’s visit helped me solve a number of problems, including some I didn’t know I had! As well as configuring a new installation of Cubase and a large number of VSTs on a new PC, he also connected the new setup successfully to my existing hardware and rack units, making corrections and optimising the wiring so that the monitor sound improved dramatically, and also helped me to migrate my old songs from the old box to the new one with no problems. He also made some very useful suggestions about the current setup and was encouraging, responsive and proactive. Definitely well worth every penny spent and very reassuring to know I can call on that level of expertise again – which I most certainly will. Thanks very much!

An excellent service. Having got to the point of throwing the computer out of the window with the PC manufacturers and software providers being of no help with my problems, I found Audio Support on the internet. The appointment for telephone support was booked quickly and professionally. The engineer Paul Andrews used Skype screen sharing software so that he could look at my PC remotely and diagnosed the problems and told me how to fix them. Within an hour I was up and running again and had learnt a few new things also. I will definitely use him again if I have any further problems. Thank you Paul for your help. Best Regards.

Job Reports

I also publish job reports on this site to explain my troubleshooting methods to potential clients. Here are some examples.

Outside Audio Support

I’m a huge fan of modular synths and am involved with the monthly synthfest.online events run on Twitch.tv
I still play the bass guitar. In this pic, I’m playing as part of a 90s tribute band.
