Went to see a client in South East London who was having a problem with his Komplete Audio 6 audio interface disconnecting from Ableton Live every time he opened the program. The disconnections were also occurring randomly during his Ableton sessions.
My client was working around the issue by physically disconnecting the USB cable and plugging it back in to get the interface to be recognised again by his Mac. But the dropouts were occurring more frequently and becoming very annoying.
Took a bit of time to solve this one. Explored all the usual likely causes: drivers, preferences, USB hubs and ports, Mac energy saver settings etc.
Eventually found the solution: the Native Instruments branded USB cable was at fault. Replaced the cable with a generic one and the interface stayed connected to the Mac for the remainder of our teaching session.
