Soundiron Quadral 3 Stops After a While and Asks for a Kontakt Serial Number in Logic Pro

The problem
A paid-for Kontakt library stops after 15 minutes and demands a serial number.
What I found
An 'open-format' library (requiring the full version of Kontakt) was loaded into the free Kontakt Player, triggering its 15-minute demo mode limit.
What fixed it
Client educated on the distinction between Kontakt Full and Player. Open-format library loaded into the correct, licensed version of Kontakt.

Soundiron Quadral 3 loads and plays in Kontakt, then after a while it stops and asks for a Kontakt serial number. That happens when it is loaded into the free Kontakt Player, which only runs libraries it has no licence for in demo mode, for 15 minutes.

Quadral 3 is an open-format library. It has no Native Instruments serial number, and Soundiron states it needs the full retail version of Kontakt (6.2.2 or later). There is no serial to find, so searching Native Access for one goes nowhere. The fix is to load Quadral 3 into the full version of Kontakt, and add it to Kontakt’s Library browser once with Import Content. Libraries made for Kontakt Player, such as Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit, carry on working in the Player as normal.

The client is a returning one, a musician in New York working in Logic Pro on a Mac. He owned three Soundiron libraries: Quadral 3, Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit. He’d got all three partly installed himself, but Quadral 3 kept cutting out and he wasn’t sure he’d done any of them the best way. In his words, he can make good music from any instrument you hand him, but “all this move this to here and that to there and directories and imports” left him lost.

Does this match what you’re seeing?

  • Quadral 3 loads into a Kontakt track in Logic Pro and plays normally at first.
  • After a while it stops working. In my client’s words, it “says that Quadral does not support Kontakt” and then asks for a Kontakt serial number.
  • You can’t find a serial number for Quadral 3, or for that copy of Kontakt, in Native Access or your Native Instruments account.
  • Other Soundiron libraries, such as Axe Machina or David Oliver’s Drum Kit, work fine in the same Kontakt.
  • Quadral 3 doesn’t appear in Kontakt’s list of libraries down the left-hand side.

If that’s the picture, your installation is fine. Quadral 3 is in the wrong Kontakt.

A ten-second test

Open the Kontakt window that Quadral 3 is loaded in and look at the logo at the top left. If it reads KONTAKT Player, you’re in the free Player and Quadral 3 will keep cutting out. If it reads just KONTAKT, with FILE, LIBRARY and VIEW next to it, you’re in the full version.

Both of these were on the same Mac, both opened from Logic’s instrument menu.

What this isn’t

It isn’t a missing serial number. Soundiron sells Quadral 3 as a standard open-format Kontakt library. It is downloaded with a Soundiron download code and has no Native Instruments serial, so there is nothing to add in Native Access. My client had already searched Native Access and his Native Instruments account and couldn’t find anything, which was the right result.

It isn’t a broken install. The library plays perfectly until the demo period runs out. Reinstalling it, or moving it to another drive, puts you back in the same 15-minute window.

Native Access’s Add Serial is the right fix for a different kind of library. Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit are licensed for Kontakt Player and do come with serial numbers. Adding those in Native Access makes them appear in Kontakt’s Libraries list. That route doesn’t exist for Quadral 3.

Newer isn’t automatically right. My client had Kontakt 7 and Kontakt 8 installed. He bought Komplete while Kontakt 7 was current, so his licence covers the full version of Kontakt 7. Kontakt 8 came later and isn’t included, so on his Mac it only runs as the free Player. That’s why he couldn’t load everything into Kontakt 8. Kontakt 7 is the one Quadral 3 needs.

The fix: load Quadral 3 into the full version of Kontakt

Nothing here deletes or moves your files. Your Player libraries are unaffected.

1. Make a track with the full version of Kontakt. In Logic Pro, create a Software Instrument track and choose the instrument from AU Instruments > Native Instruments. On my client’s Mac that was Kontakt 7 > Stereo. Check the logo with the ten-second test above before going further.

2. Open the LIBRARY tab, not the side list. When Kontakt opens from Logic it shows a list of libraries down the left-hand side. Quadral 3 won’t be in it, which is where my client kept looking. Click LIBRARY at the top of the window instead.

3. Add Quadral 3 to the Library browser (once). In the Library browser, click the cogwheel at the bottom left of the browser to open Import Content. On the Custom Libraries tab, click Add, choose the Quadral 3 folder and click Close. My client keeps his libraries on an external drive, so we pointed it at the folder there.

4. Open the Quadral 3 folder and load the preset. Scroll to Soundiron Quadral 3. It shows as a plain grey folder with no artwork, which is normal for an imported library. Click it, then double-click the Quadral 3 preset on the right.

5. Keep your Player libraries in Kontakt Player. For Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit, add a separate track with Kontakt 8. Both appear straight away in its browser, because they are licensed for the Player. We used Kontakt 8 for those because it’s the newer version and the one that will keep getting updates.

How the session went

Before the session he sent me notes he’d gathered online. They were broadly right: Player libraries have serials and show in the Libraries list, and open-format ones don’t. What they couldn’t tell him was which of the two Kontakts on his own Mac was the full version. That was the missing piece.

Over a one-hour remote session on 19 October 2026, I imported Quadral 3 as a custom library in Kontakt 7 and showed him where to find it. Then I set up Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit in Kontakt 8. I recorded my explanation as we went and took screenshots, and afterwards sent him a written step-by-step guide with the screenshots marked up, so he could repeat it without me.

It isn’t only Quadral

The same thing happens with any open-format Kontakt library, from Soundiron or any other developer. If the product page says it needs the full version of Kontakt, Kontakt Player will run it in demo mode and stop it after 15 minutes.

It isn’t specific to Logic either. Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton Live and every other host load Kontakt Player and full Kontakt as separate plug-ins, and it’s easy to pick the wrong one from a long menu. The ten-second test above works the same in all of them.

Demo mode can also appear on libraries you have paid for and registered. In another case, two libraries kept loading in demo mode because the licences were tied to an old email address with a one-letter typo, which I wrote up in Kontakt demo mode on libraries you own. If your library has a serial and still shows DEMO, start there.

Common questions

Where do I find the serial number for Quadral 3?

There isn’t a Native Instruments one. Quadral 3 is unlocked by the download code Soundiron sends when you buy it, and it runs in the full version of Kontakt without being registered in Native Access.

Why doesn’t Quadral 3 show in my Kontakt Libraries list?

That list is for libraries registered with Native Instruments. Open-format libraries appear in the Library browser as a folder once you’ve added them with Import Content, as in step 3.

Can I run Quadral 3 in the free Kontakt Player?

Only as a demo. Native Instruments states that Kontakt Player runs unlicensed content for 15 minutes before it stops. Soundiron states that Quadral 3 needs the full retail version of Kontakt 6.2.2 or later.

I own Komplete, so why is my Kontakt 8 only the Player?

Your Komplete licence includes the full version of whichever Kontakt was current when you bought it. My client bought his during the Kontakt 7 era, so Kontakt 7 is full and Kontakt 8 runs as the free Player. Use the full version you own for open-format libraries like Quadral 3.

Do Axe Machina and David Oliver’s Drum Kit need the full version of Kontakt?

No. Both are licensed for the free Kontakt Player. You register their serial numbers in Native Access and they appear in Kontakt’s Libraries list.

What I didn’t see for myself

I didn’t watch Quadral 3 time out in this session. The cut-off my client described before we spoke matches Native Instruments’ documented demo behaviour, and Quadral 3 ran normally once it was in the full version. If you’ve seen this message, I’d like to know what it said word for word, so I can quote it here and make the page easier to find.

If a Kontakt library keeps stopping after a few minutes and you can’t find a serial for it, check which Kontakt it’s loaded in before you reinstall anything.
